Travelling in the highland

The middle part of Iceland is called 'the highland'. Nobody lives there all year round. People travel around, mostly in the summer time but some also in the winter time. The nature is harsh and beautiful, and the roads are mainly for jeeps on 4 wheel drive. Before you travel into the highland, be sure you know the weather- and road conditions and if you are travelling somewhere where few people go, make sure someone knows where you are going.
The safest way to travel into the highland is in prepared trips either in a bus or in a mountain-car. A lot of such trips are available and many of them very exciting. Check this website: http://www.nat.is/travelguideeng/interior_travelguide.htm#kort
